"Spring, Summer and Autumn" 1, 2 and 3

Tatton Park, January 2008
In the nineties, I was one of three artists who rented studio spaces in the Stable Block at Lyme Park in Disley. Five years of living with the dramatic landscape, the deer, sheep and other wildlife was a joy, and to be here year round to experience the cycles of all within the park was inspiring and a privilege.
The installations at Tatton Park are about the lifecycle of deer, using fallen branches to represent antlers, painted in the colours of leaves from the yellows of early spring, the greens of summer to the rich tones of autumn - birth to death of both deer and leaves.
Individual tableaux within the three "herds" illustrate their habits - the often violent relationships between the males and females, the docility of the older ones, the battles between stags and bucks, the births and the deaths, as well as the groups of younger ones who huddle together for protection and to learn from their elders.
